Do you live in Illinois and have a TEEN or ADULT family member with a developmental disability — autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome or other?
Many of us advocate for a broader, more flexible menu of services, supports and funding strategies in Illinois. But in the meantime, there are real, practical and inspiring changes happening in local IL communities everyday that support meaningful community living for our young adults.
IPADDU’s purpose is to give Illinois parents, self-advocates, adult sibs and others who care a dedicated online platform for networking, advocacy and information-sharing so we know what’s happening around the state, and can take action in our own local communities. We all learn from each other.
Primary focus areas are: Meaningful Days (Employment, Volunteerism, and Community Service); Community Building (Friendships, Social Life, Rec/Leisure, Faith Communities, Transportation); Approaching Age 18 (Public Benefits, Guardianship, Wills and Trusts, Voting); Residential/Housing; and how to pay for all of it!
Join us for support and information around these important topics. Post a question to the group about something you’re unsure about or want advice on; our group includes self-advocates, fellow parents and adult siblings, plus professionals in the field who care, too. What makes us unique from other Facebook disability groups is our laser-focus on Illinois and on the issues facing teens and adults with I/DDs.
IPADD is moderated by volunteer family members, and membership approval required.
