Where to Begin

Getting Started

It’s tough. You have a loved one with an intellectual or development disability and you need help and support. The state system in Illinois is hard to navigate. Where do you even begin? IDD Navigator has the resources you need. Whether you seek help for a child or an adult, or just need a handy reference guide to state agencies, we offer a place to start.

First Steps

Finding Your Independent Service Coordinator

The first step in seeking services for your IDD loved one in Illinois is to identify your Independent Service Coordinator agency (ISC). Your ISC will help explain each step of the process to find assistance that best meets your family member’s needs.

IDD Resources for Children

Before starting your journey to find services, it’s critical you identify your state Independent Service Coordinator (ISC), who can provide a variety of services to help a child with IDD, including everything from Individualized Planning to Crisis Intervention.

IDD Resources For Adults

As with any IDD journey, finding services for intellectually or developmentally disabled adults begins with locating your Independent Service Coordinator (ISC), who can help with every step of the process, from Person-Centered Planning to Family and Caregiver Support.
